Our Story.
The story of The Wild Kitchen begins long before the first fire was lit. Founder Sarah Glover comes from a line of adventurers. Her great-grandfather sailed from Britain to the wild waters of Tasmania as a fisherman, fell in love, and never left. Generations later, Sarah grew up overlooking the Southern Ocean near Hobart, one of eight children in a family where the table was always full, the catch of the day became dinner, and somehow there was always enough for one more.
The sea shaped Sarah. She followed her older brothers into Tasmania’s cold waters, surfing the great southern swells, fishing for tuna and diving for abalone, scallops and lobster. On the island’s remote beaches, fire meant warmth after a cold surf and a place to gather as darkness fell. On family sheep farms along the east coast, nights were spent in old shepherds’ huts, wallaby was cooked over flame, and extraordinary local produce was gathered, caught, grown or bought from roadside honesty boxes. Tasmania taught Sarah that the best food has a place, a season and a story.
Sarah carried those lessons into kitchens across Australia and eventually New York, but the confines of restaurant life never quite matched her restless creativity. After returning home to Tasmania, she found herself drawn once again to the ocean, the landscape and the fire. Then came a request to cook her brother’s wedding on a remote farm with almost no infrastructure. Where another chef might have seen limitations, Sarah saw possibility. Fires were built, the landscape became the kitchen, and The Wild Kitchen was born.
Today, The Wild Kitchen carries that Tasmanian spirit into extraordinary landscapes around the world. We create immersive feasts where exceptional regional produce meets open fire, wild places and beautiful tables; where guests can watch dinner unfold amongst smoke, flame and the elements. From mountains and ranches to forests, vineyards and remote coastlines, every Wild Kitchen is created for its place and its people. We don’t simply bring dinner to a destination. We create an experience that could only have happened there.
